DOROTHY SAYERS Strong Poison
1979
In this cover for Hearst’s Lord Peter Wimsey series of murder mysteries, the murder weapon is in plain sight. I often rented props, such as the silver coffee pot & chafing dish, but many pieces were my own, such as the lace. I often took SX-70 Polaroids of set-ups for reference. Everyday objects and disembodied hands within a close-cropped cinematic frame are meant to create a feeling of menace and mystery.
Watercolor, Prismacolor Colored Pencils on cold-pressed board.
