I got this job after the Van Halen tour. I was exhausted & living in a one-room apartment in Van Nuys where militant lesbians played poker all night by the pool and occasionally shot pistols bringing the police. A kindly Jim Heiman introduced me to Liz Kooker at the Taper and she gave me this job, for which I was completely unprepared, but had to pull off in a few days. I lifted figures from everywhere (some very obvious) and did the drawing in black on front of acetate and painted the back with cel-vinyls. What an unmitigated mess, but it somehow just passed muster. I think it was the tasteful type . . .
